Big Game Species Guides

Start with the animal. Then build the state, license, access, gear and recovery plan around it.

Big Game Ledger species guides organize research by animal and state. They are planning resources—not firsthand hunt reports or substitutes for current regulations. Always verify seasons, legal animals, permits, access and transport rules with the responsible wildlife agency.

Choose a big-game species

Each hub explains the species-specific planning problem, compares major state systems and connects to detailed state guides. Permit structures and landscapes differ, but every responsible plan begins with a current legal opportunity and ends with a practical recovery and reporting system.

How to use the species library

  1. Choose a species hub. Learn the core identification, habitat, permit and recovery issues before comparing states.
  2. Open the general planning guide. Turn the broad opportunity into a written application, scouting, gear, access and extraction workflow.
  3. Choose a state guide. Follow its official agency links and verify the exact current regulation, hunt code, unit, season and legal animal.
  4. Build the map and gear systems. Use the site’s mapping, optics, footwear, backpack, sleep and meat-care resources to support the specific hunt.
  5. Recheck before acting. Wildlife rules, closures, application dates, quotas, access and disease restrictions can change after an article is reviewed.
